Training Opportunities  
   

  • All caregivers working with NHI, must attend an orientation at NHI headquarters in Toronto.
  • This orientation will include " All you need to know about NHI & clients"
  • The Role that NHI caregivers will play in providing service to Clients
  • The History of NHI is given, the Philosophy, Objective
  • NHI services are based upon a Team approach. At the center of the team is the Client and his/her family. The activities of the Team are based on their needs. Members of the Health Care Team may include the following

    Visiting Nurses
    Occupational Health Nurses
    Registered Nurses
    Registered Practical Nurses
    Health Care Aides
    Personal Support Workers
    Home support Workers
    Developmental Service Workers
    Laboratory Assistants

  • A concentrated, coordinated approach is necessary if the client is to benefit from the best efforts of each member of the Team.
  • When working for NHI, caregivers must remember that the following information is considered confidential:
    1. All client information
    2. Information about fellow employees and other NHI staff
    3. Company policies and procedures
    4. This information must be treated with respect and in a confidential manner by all employees both on duty and off duty. Information about a client is to be discussed only with NHI supervisory staff and other health care professionals who are directly involved with the client i.e. Physician, Visiting Nurse etc.
  • Before being offered assignments, all caregivers will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement with NHI. Breaches of confidentiality are subject to disciplinary action and may result in immediate termination.
  • Staff does not  give out a Client's phone number to a member of your family or other person. If they need to contact you, have them call the office and your Supervisor/Staffing coordinator will get in touch with you.
  • It is mandatory for employees  to have a medical examination complete by your physician within 30 days of employment and yearly thereafter. We are  not responsible for cost incurred during these examinations. The necessary forms are available form the NHI office and must be returned to the office in a sealed envelope to the attention of the Human Resources Supervisor.
  • Orientation is mandatory, and you will receive information and policies, which you need in order to complete your assignments in a compassionate, professional, efficient and timely way. At this time you will receive a copy of your job description. Please become familiar with it. Caregivers will not be offered assignment until the orientation is completed.
  • Other matters that would be discussed include, probationary period, accepting assignments, availability, cancellation, sick calls, requests for days off, dress code, calling NHI, professional ethics, performance appraisals, quality assurance program, problem solving procedures, disciplinary actions, resignations, terminations, payroll, Workplace Safety Insurance Board, Inservice Education Programs, Safety
