Safe Environment

  • Safety is a basic need. In a safe setting, a person has little risk of illness or injury. The person feels safe and secure physically and mentally.

  • Awareness of surroundings, for example the confused and disoriented Client may not understand what is happening, and can harm oneself and others.

  • Vision- to be aware that Clients with poor vision are at risk for fall can trip on items; can take wrong medications, wrong doses, or poisons.

  • Hearing - to be aware that hearing impaired person has problems smelling smoke or gas. They may have problems sensing heat or cold, and they can get burned.

  • Paralysis - The Client may be unable to move to safety

  • It is important that the caregiver be aware that Clients do fall and most of these falls occur in bedrooms and bathrooms. The risk of fall increase with age and most falls are in persons between the ages of 65 and 85. Most falls occur in the evening, also during shift changes.

  • Our care plan list measures for the person's specific risk factors

  • It is important that the care provider be aware of fire safety measure, disasters, and workplace violence. It is also very important that the caregiver be fully aware of the risk management strategies.
